Birthday Trip to Racine

70th birthday. Kind of a milestone. On the road by 10:30. First stop, breakfast in Milton at Cindy’s Café. Excellent waffle, scrambled eggs, two sausage patties, and coffee.  Place was packed. 


Then, on to Racine to the Hotel Verdant downtown. Very nice boutique hotel. Brightly lit. Nice room with two queen beds. 
















Short nap, then on to the HobNob Supper Club for a delicious dinner of tenderloin topped with crab meat, French onion soup, salad. And for dessert flourless chocolate cake with ice cream and coffee. Great waiter. My only complaint is that they were a little heavy on the hollandaise sauce.




 




Back to hotel for a pretty good night’s sleep. Air conditioning was a little fussy. Up at 8 a.m. for breakfast at The Maple Table, just a few doors down. Lemon and ricotta pancakes with berry compote, donut holes with raspberry compote, and coffee.














Next, a stop at the Pepperidge Farm store in the Kenosha outlet mall. Bought $30 worth of cookies. Would have bought more, but were advised Mondays are not the best day to shop there.











On the road by 11 a.m. Stopped once to pee at a rest stop and buy a Coke from the vending machine. Back home by 2 p.m.

Today, we are meeting Karen and Craig, Dawn's friends, for an early lunch at B.J.'s Restaurant & Brewhouse out on Alico Road by the airport. I have five of their watches I got in running condition for them. Most were just batteries, but one was a stem and crown replacement on a lady Movado watch which ran me $40 all by itself to have my buddy down the street at Prestige Jewelers obtain the parts and install them. I'm doing very little watch repair work for people these days, because it's generally a pain in the ass. I'm trying to train all my relatives to simply tell people that I'm retired! But these are good friends, and I know how hard it is to obtain reliable and honest watch repair, especially around this part of the country. Looking forward to trying the new restaurant and catching up with Karen and Craig. Lacy

 By Bruce Shawkey This is Lacy, our most excellent host at the Gold Rush Brewery in Alaska. "You can have ALL the beer you want." This was part of our Alaska cruise. We were told on our tour tickets we were limited to two beers, but Lacy told us otherwise. We had a buffet lunch as well, and as I recall we had chicken legs as our meat entree. Lacy told us she moved to Alaska with her boyfriend, but he couldn't stand it and moved back to the lower 48. "Turned out I was the one with the balls," Lacy told us. She was a hoot. She told us she shares an apartment with a couple of other woman. Alaska is a very expensive place to live.

Latest Cruise

First cruise aboard aboard an Oasis-class ship, the Wonder of the Seas. Cabin 10th floor, Cabin #10147 Missed shuttle to cruise ship. Caught ride on another van got to terminal by 1 p.m. picked up scooter, went through security, up to Windjammer for buffet lunch. Very good, crowded, but they had handicapped tables available. Usual dishes and treats. Then to theater to check off safety drill. I'm now in cabin and Julie is off people watching. Met cabin steward and he will separate beds. RC app doesn't seem to be working. We set up stuff and get confirmation message, but then then the crew has no record of it. But we work it out. Dinner of fish filet was very good. Show tonight was the RC singers and dancers doing a variety show. Then off to bed. Day 2 Up at 8 a.m. and off to the 'Jammer for  hearty breakfast.
